Jay-Z's release of an
a cappella 'Black Album'
inspired the creation of brilliant, yet unauthorized, remixes. Amateur music-mixers now have access to another icon's raw material, but this opportunity is officially sanctioned by Sony. The record company recently announced its Remix Project, which
allows amateur and professional producers to manipulate -- without fear of reprisal -- a classic tune from Bob Dylan. The songs have each been segmented into four categories (vocal, guitar, drum and bass), and you simply "drag and drop your favorite tracks into the video player to create your remix."
Sony's isn't just hoping for frivolous fan interaction, though. The creator of the best "Subterranean Homesick Blues" mashup
will receive a free trip to Austin's famed
South by Southwest festival in March. The Remix Project site already hosts an impressive catalog of entertaining jams, so get the
stone ball rolling before the prize is going, going, gone.
