The Mazda CX lineup is looking a little dated, isn’t it? When the CX-7 and CX-9 debuted, their curvaceous-high-SUV-aesthetic seemed edgy and new. Now, there’s a damn Kia wearing that look.
But Mazda has an ace up its sleeve. The Minagi concept, set to appear at the Geneva auto show later this year, could re-make the automaker’s crossover lineup as something startlingly sexy once again. It may be headed for production, rumors say, as a midsize CX-5.
In fact, production mules have already been spotted…and we can’t wait for the finished product. If they manage to bring this to market without significant modifications (and yes, we’re worried about how exactly that rakish front end — the car’s best feature — can be made to work with pedestrian safety regulations) it’ll easily be the best-looking crossover on the market. It’ll also be the first sign that the gorgeous Shinari concept was something more than a tease.
