R.I.P. 1019 WRXP - Rock Music Is Officially Dead in NYC

WRXP (101.9 FM) is an alternative rock radio station, jockless as of 12:00 on Friday July 15, 2011 as a stunt, located in New York City. WRXP is owned by Merlin Media, and is shared studios with former sister stations WQHT and WRKS in New York's West Village neighborhood. WRXP's transmitter is located at the Empire State Building. The station also broadcasts a smooth jazz format on its HD Radio subchannel (101.9-2).
On June 21, 2011, Emmis Communications announced it was selling WRXP to a new radio firm called Merlin Media, pending approval by the Federal Communications Commission. The alternative rock format of WRXP continues as an Internet radio stream at 1019rxp.com. On July 15, 2011, Merlin Media begin operating WRXP through a local marketing agreement with a change in format expected to follow.
