Rides : Honda Civic Type-R confirmed for production

A new Civic Type-R generation has been confirmed for production by several officials from the Japanese based automaker Honda, with the announcement coming during the Tokyo Motor Show.

According to autocar.co.uk, the president of Honda Motor Europe, Manabu Nishimae, has confirmed that a new Civic Type-R is in the works but didn’t announce an official date for when the model will be presented to the public. This isn’t the first time that an official of the Japanese based automaker is confirming the production of a new Civic Type-R, and earlier this year, the Honda Civic chief engineer, Mitsuru Kariya, also announced that the company is working on the Type-R version.
The president of Honda Motor Europe said that the new Type-R will have a new body kit, with special bumpers, spoilers, seats and wheels, which will set it apart from the standard version and the model is expected to be powered by a naturally aspirated petrol engine which will be developing over 200 horsepower. Sadly this is all we know about the new Civic Type-R for now but the new generation will most likely be presented in 2012, during a major international auto show.
As a reminder, the Type-R is the highest performance version of the Civic made by Honda Motor Company of Japan, with a lightened and stiffened body, specially tuned engine and upgraded brakes and chassis. The first Civic to receive the Type-R badge was originally introduced back in 1998 as the EK9 and shared many characteristics with the Integra Type-R DC2.
