The
German based automaker BMW has recently announced that the next
generation of the BMW M3 and M4 will be powered by an inline 6-cylinder
turbocharged engine.
“Mr. Willisch said a V6 configuration was previously considered (including whether a motor based on the current M3’s S65 engine minus two cylinders was appropriate), but ultimately ruled out”, as our source says.According to Ludwig Willisch, the BMW of North America President, the new engine is replacing the old 4.0 liter V8 which can be found on the current generation of the M3. The company’s official didn’t say anything about the displacement in the new inline six-cylinder unit, but it’s expected to come as a 3.0 liter twin-turbo or even tri-turbo, developing a total output of around 444 BHP. The new generation of the BMW M3 will be presented in late 2013 or early 2014.
