Rides : Toyota GT 86 Convertible might hit the market in 2014

Toyota is planning to develop a drop top version of its popular sports car, the GT 86, and the company will also be followed by Subaru, with a convertible variant for the BRZ model.

Even if there is no official word on this subject for the moment from the Japanese based automaker, the guys at autocar.co.uk are saying that the drop top version of the Toyota GT 86 is “almost inevitable” and the one for the Subaru BRZ is “imminent”. Our source is also saying that the Toyota GT 86 Cabrio might hit the market in 2014, which means that Subaru is also getting ready for the same “operation” on its BRZ sports car. Toyota will eventually release a drop top version for the Scion FR-S over-seas too.
The Toyota GT 86 sports car is expected to adopt the same engine as the coupe, but unfortunately we don’t have any more details on this subject. As a quick reminder, both the Toyota GT 86 and the Subaru BRZ are powered by the Subaru 2.0 liter four-cylinder petrol unit, with Toyota’s D-4S direct injection, which is producing 187 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 205 Nm of torque (151 lb-ft) at 6,600 rpm. The unit is mated to a six-speed manual transmission in standard or a six-speed automatic, available as an option.
