Nightlife : Finale opening on Halloween, Space Ibiza coming in 2013, Marquee NY under renovation, new Cielo in Brooklyn

Nightlife in New York is about to get a whole lot more exciting, with a number of new or updated clubs being announced by some of the biggest players in the game. Finale NYC (pictured above) will be opening next week as a partnership between the EMM Group and owners of Pacha NYC, Space Ibiza confirms that it will be opening a location in New York, and Marquee NY is under major renovations — and is said to have a partnership in place with Tiesto (see update below). Oh, and we’ve got exclusive details on Nicolas Matar’s latest project — a new Cielo in Brooklyn.

First off we have Finale, a new venue opening at 199 Bowery as a partnership between the EMM Group (SL, Tenjune, Catch Roof) and Eddie Dean and Rob Fernandez of Pacha NYC. The club is described as being like a “padded vault” and it is said to be a larger version of “Cielo on steroids.” It will have a 600 person capacity and is set to open on Halloween with a private event hosted by Heidi Klum before the grand opening party later that evening with sounds provided by Nervo. The club will then close until R3hab plays on November 8th, and other acts confirmed for November include the Manufactured Superstars, Hook N Sling, and Chris Lake.


The news of Finale’s opening comes along with reports from MixMag and Page Six that Space Ibiza will be coming to New York as well, setting a super-club with a reported 13,000 (!!!) capacity location at 50th Street and 12th Avenue, just a few blocks away from Pacha NYC. Reps for Space tell MixMag that they hope to open clubs in both New York and Dubai in 2013.
Finally, we have the under-construction Marquee NY, which is reportedly set to re-open in January. Page Six says that the Tao Group has partnered with Tiesto, though details of the partnership haven’t yet come to light. We’ve heard that the renovation will include the removal of the back room, making way for an enormous dance floor and a venue that will have tons of LEDs and not as many tables. (Update: Reps for Marquee tell us that “whilst Tiesto is a good friend of Noah & Jason’s, the reports of him being an owner or resident of the new MarqueeNY when it re-opens are completely false.”)
Nicolas Matar, owner of Cielo, spoke on an ADE panel where he revealed that he is opening a new club in Brooklyn. ”My project is very much inspired by clubs like Panorama in Berlin… and Williamsburg is thriving right now, I think there’s no better place in North America for such a club…” Matar said that the club will have a main room with a capacity of 1,000 people, a second room with a 300-400 capacity, and a rooftop that will accommodate up to 700 people with views of the Manhattan skyline. We don’t know what the club will be called or when it will open.
It seems that all of these new venues are gunning for the same target demographic: people in the younger age groups that have a primary focus on the music, but perhaps want something a bit more upscale than Pacha NYC. It will be interesting to see what kinds of people each venue ends up attracting.
