If “hard working, handsome DJ and producer” was an entry in the
dictionary, I would expect to find a picture of Tijs Michiel Verwest,
better known as Tiësto. He has been a
legitimate hit maker in the electronic music industry for nearly 20
years, from his “Forbidden Paradise” mixes in the 90’s and compilation
albums like 2004’s Paradise of the Athletes to his successful studio albums In My Memory and Kaleidoscope. Some of his recent hits include “We Own the Night,” “Hell Yeah,” and the infamous track “Zero76” alongside Hardwell.
In addition to his reputation as a global DJ superstar, Tiësto is also known for channeling his passion for helping others through philanthropic work with various charitable organizations and his support for victims of the 2004 tsunami and as a worldwide ambassador for Dance4Life, which educates young people about preventing the spread of HIV.
Currently, he is actively involved with (RED), which fights AIDS in Africa. The organization, founded in 2006 by Bono and Bobby Shriver, has partnered with some of the world’s best known companies that contribute up to 50 percent of profits from (RED) branded products and services to the Global Fund, which invests in HIV/AIDS programs that focus on countries with a high prevalence of mother-to-child transmission.
Tiësto became involved with (RED) after he was hospitalized with chest pains. Doctors tested him for HIV as well as other possible ailments, He was eventually diagnosed with pericarditis, a common condition frequently found in HIV/AIDS patients. After his personal health battles he felt an obligation to become involved in the worldwide fight against HIV and AIDS, which I think is very honorable and noble.
On World AIDS Day, December 1, 2012, Tiesto teamed up with (RED) and some of the biggest dance artists for DANCE (RED)SAVE LIVES, which was streamed live from Melbourne’s Stereosonic Festival on JoinRED.com and Rolling Stone. The video below explains the goal of DANCE (RED) SAVE LIVES.

When you go (RED), you change—and save—lives. Connie lost three
children to HIV before treatment was available in her home country of
Zambia. She is alive today because she was given access to lifesaving
antiretroviral treatment. Watch Connie’s emotional story of how (RED)
gave her hope and a future.
The DANCE (RED) SAVE LIVES ALBUM
features an exclusive collaboration between Tiësto and Bono of U2’s
“Pride.” The album, which celebrates big-bass and ground-shaking beats,
is a bona fide summary of EDM’s circle of the greatest producers of 2012
that will make you want to drop it to the floor hardcore.
(RED), Tiesto, and the musicians featured on DANCE (RED) SAVE LIVES
have taken a phenomenal amount of time and effort to help in the fight
against AIDS. I can personally attest to their heartfelt gratitude for
any help you can give in the fight against AIDS. Every day 900 babies
are born with HIV and AIDS has taken more than 30 million lives globally
over the last 30 years. The beginning of the end of AIDS starts with
you and I. Together we can deliver an AIDS-free generation by 2015.
