The next step up from the Cayman S is known as the Cayman S Black Edition: Starting in July 2011, Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is bringing the mid-engine coupé to market in a special edition limited to 500 units boasting even better performance and especially lavish equipment specification.
The Cayman S Black Edition is powered by a 3.4 litre six-cylinder boxer engine with power output increased by 10 hp (7 kW) to 330 hp (243 kW) at 7,400 rpm (an additional 200 rpm). The maximum torque remains unchanged at 370 Newton metres at 4,750 rpm.
Acceleration from 0-62 mph is improved by a tenth of a second to 5.1 seconds with the six-speed manual transmission, and to 5.0 seconds with the optional Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) dual clutch unit. Other costly extras like carbon-ceramic brakes and an adaptive suspension also are on the menu.
As its name suggests, the
Cayman S Black Edition is only available in black. It also incorporates a number of unique black interior features and a higher level of standard equipment, including Porsche’s Sound Package Plus, than the Cayman S.
Like the Boxster Black Edition, the darkened
Cayman actually represents a savings of several thousand dollars compared to a similarly spec’ed S. For $68,450, the
Black Cayman includes navigation, xenon headlights, an upgraded Bose stereo system, and other assorted goodies.
The 2012
Cayman S Black Edition MSRP is $67,500
