Sports : Heat's Wade plans to wear tinted glasses at Knicks

NEW YORK — Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade plans to wear tinted glasses for the start of Thursday's game against the New York Knicks to protect his eyes from the bright lights as he recovers from a migraine headache.

"I'll feel the game out, see how I feel," he said after Thursday morning's shootaround. "At times throughout the game, of course, I'll take them off, and if I feel like my eyes are adjusting well, my eyes are doing well, I may go without them. But I'm going to start the game (wearing them) for sure."

Wade missed Miami's last game Saturday against Toronto because of a migraine, a problem that has plagued him for years. Bright light is one of the triggers for the headaches.

"I just want to take no chances right now," Wade said. "I want to play."

Wade said he felt better after Wednesday's practice, but when he got off the plane in New York, he experienced blurred vision again and had to take more medication. He apologized to a reporter Thursday for not making eye contact while answering a question because he didn't want to look toward a light.

Wade has practiced with the glasses for several days, experimenting with different tints to find the one that's most comfortable. His peripheral vision will still be compromised some. Coach Erik Spoelstra said the glasses had been approved by the NBA.

The Heat were without forward Chris Bosh for Thursday's game because of a sprained left ankle. Wade was back to give Miami a Big Two with LeBron James after both he and Bosh sat out Saturday.

He still had one major uncertainty heading into his first game with the glasses.

"I don't really know how I look in them yet — I haven't even looked in the mirror," Wade joked. "I've got to make sure I look good in them, too."

Heat guard Dwyane Wade debuted the recently-leaked Air Jordan 2011 last night, putting in 18 points with 5 rebounds and 6 assists to help Miami smack the Lakers 96-80 in their Christmas Day match. After a quick first quarter teaser wear of the White/Red colorway, he switched to the Air Jordan 2010.

Wade wasn’t the only shoe headliner.

Nike’s “Stoplight Pack” also got plenty of airtime. LeBron James poured in a triple double in his Nike LeBron 8 “Run On Red” shoe, while Thunder forward Kevin Durant exploded for 44, 7, 4, 2 and 2 in his Nike Zoom KD III “No Yield For Yellow” and Lakers guard Kobe Bryant contributed 17, 6 and 7 with his green mamba-inspired Nike Zoom Kobe VI “Green Means Go” in the Lakers loss.

Non-sig athletes, including Chris Bosh, Glen Davis and David Lee, also celebrated the day by wearing red/green-themed shoes.

Choosing not to rock the boat with a surprising color-up, Gilbert Arenas opted for the Air Jordan 9 Retro Premio BIN23.

Heat's Wade, Mavericks' Nowitzki named Players of the Week

NEW YORK -- The Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade and the Dallas Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki today were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Dec. 6, through Sunday, Dec. 12.

Wade led the Heat to a 4-0 week, averaging 30.8 points on .584 shooting from the field, 8.3 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.0 steal. On Dec 11, Wade scored 36 points to go along with six assists, six rebounds, helping Miami to its eighth straight victory, a 104-83 win over Sacramento. On Dec. 6 at Milwaukee, Wade posted a double-double with a game-high 25 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.

Nowitzki averaged 25.7 points on .700 shooting from the field and 9.0 rebounds, leading Dallas to a 3-0 week, extending the current Maverick winning streak to 12 games. In consecutive games -- Dec. 9 vs. New Jersey, Dec.11 vs. Utah Jazz -- Nowitzki led the Mavericks in scoring and rebounds.

In those two games Nowitzki shot .800 (8-10) and .833 (10-12) from the field, respectively.

Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas Mavericks

Dec. 7 vs. Golden State: Tallied 25 points, four blocks and two steals in a 105-100 win over the Warriors.

Dec. 9 vs. New Jersey: Posted team-highs of 21 points and 10 rebounds, and added a steal in a 102-89 win over the Nets.

Dec. 11 vs. Utah: Scored a game-high 31 points on 10-12 shooting to go along with 15 rebounds and four assists.
