Yea, this sounds like a terrific idea all around. A team that’s in shambles because a ponzi schemer took them for all their worth is going to get bought by a guy whose sole redeeming quality right now is encompassed by two words….”You’re fired!”.
“We’ll see what happens,” said Trump, who previously owned the New Jersey Generals in the United States Football League, and who was a frequent guest of George Steinbrenner at Yankee Stadium.Trump seems to have a loyalty problem here as well. He’s been known to take in a Yankees game or two during the baseball season and was seen in the New England Patriots box during the playoffs. This commingling between Boston and New York teams almost seems like sports sacrilege.
“It’s going to take a long time for [the Mets] to work out the situation,” said Trump, who added he would be willing to sell any interests he has in Atlantic City casinos to satisfy baseball’s prohibition of team owners running gambling houses.
Trump said he would not necessarily insist on owning a majority stake in the team, but he noted, “My history is I control things.”
The only good thing that can come out of this? The Donald’s hair may make more repeated appearances on TV. We’re all winners if that’s the case.
