The German car manufacturers BMW and Audi revealed their 2012 DTM cars, the M3 and the A5, known internally as R17.
BMW will return to the DTM in 2012 with the help of the M3, car presented this weekend during a festivity, in Munich. Representing the Bavarian hope for the competition, the M3 brings back BMW at DTM after 18 years.According to the Bavarian car manufacturer, the M3 for DTM is powered by a V8 which develops 480 HP, offering the car of a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration of just 3 seconds, with a 300 km/h top speed. BMW also presented two of its six drivers, Andy Priaulx and Augusto Farfus.
Known internally as the R17, the new A5 DTM Concept was presented by the Audi Group. The A5 will replace the four-time champion A4 DTM and it will be powered by a V8 which, according to the manufacturer, is developing 460 HP, and it is connected to a six-gear transmission, similar to the one on the A4 DTM.
The picture shown by Audi of their A5 DTM Concept reveals the same front end as the old model, with no facelift, but it is expected for the car to get a new “face”.
