EDM : Deadmau5 returns to festivals at Ultra 2013

Image for Deadmau5 returns to festivals at Ultra 2013 As the man who once famously decried “these fucking festival things”, the ever-opinionated Deadmau5 might not have been the first person you’d pick to sign on for one of the biggest festivals in the world. But if you’re going to return to the festival stage, there’s no grander way to do it than with Ultra Music Festival. In 2012, Miami’s colossal event brought over 165,000 punters to town to catch a lineup that spanned everyone from Avicii, David Guetta and Tiesto to Kraftwerk, New Order and Carl Cox. But in 2013, Ultra’s upping the ante even further: expanding to two weekends (a la fellow festival juggernaut Coachella), staging two separate three-day festivals over March 15-17 and 22-24. Deadmau5, those planning the UMF pilgrimage should be pleased to hear, will be there for both of them.
“Well, I caved in,” man-behind-the-mask Joel Zimmerman tweeted over the weekend. “There was just too many of you guys asking me to play at ultra this year, so im doin it for you guys! :) viva la horde.” And if you were wondering what that means for January’s anti-mainstage spiel, Zimmerman was quick to clear things up. “I guess if you want something to change… you gotta change it yourself,” he posted. “Day 1 of the Ultra show production prep starts today.” Ultra’s confirmed that the mau5 has closing honours on the Saturday night of each weekend.
So who else will Miami be welcoming to town come March? So far, all we know is that Deadmau5 will be joining Swedish House Mafia, the Swedes playing the final shows of their career over both weekends. The rest of the bill is under wraps for now, but you can bet it’ll be huge. “This is a unique concept from anything ever done before in our space, as it will be two weekends…two unique experiences,” the festival’s co-founder Russell Faibisch promised earlier this year. “There are a lot of incredible plans and surprises lined up for everyone attending our 15th Year Anniversary!”
