Brazilian police have made four arrests in connection to the tragic nightclub fire that killed 230 people. Reports suggest that the blaze was started by pyrotechnics on stage. Upon discovery of the fire many failed to escape, inhaling a deadly amount of toxic fumes.
It is presumed that the three men taken in custody include the owners of the nightclub venue and members of the band playing when the fire occurred.
Rodrigo Martin's band, Gurizada Fandangueira was performing at the student club at the time of the fire. He told local media outlet, Radio Gaucha: "We had played around five songs when I looked up and noticed the roof was burning. It might have happened because of the Sputnik, the machine we use to create a luminous effect with sparks. When the fire started, a guard passed us a fire extinguisher, and our singer tried to use it but it wasn't working".
