75 Occupy Wall Street Protesters Arrested In NYC Finance District

Police arrested protesters who sat on the ground and blocked traffic into New York City’s financial district on Thursday, part of a day of mass gatherings in response to efforts to break up Occupy Wall Street camps nationwide.
Police in riot helmets hauled several protesters to their feet and handcuffed them at an intersection one block from Wall Street.
“All day, all week, shut down Wall Street!” the crowd chanted.
Hundreds of protesters thronged intersections around the financial district, an area of narrow, crooked streets running between stately sandstone buildings housing banks, brokerage houses and the New York Stock Exchange.
After several arrests along one street, protesters retreated.

NYC Officer Allegedly Lets Inmate Use Her Cell Phone

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) – A New York City correction officer is accused of bringing her cell phone into a jail and letting an inmate use it.

Rosalyn Wilkes, who worked at the Manhattan Detention Center, was charged on Monday with promoting prison contraband and taking her cell phone to work. She was suspended for 15 days and placed on modified duty with no inmate contact.

Prison rules prohibit officers from bringing their personal cell phones to work. Prosecutors say the inmate was in jail for weapons possession and robbery.
