Tech : Get Your Glasses Ready: 24/7 3-D TV Launches Sunday on DirecTV

3net logo Next week, two channels will begin broadcasting 3-D programming around the clock, albeit to a limited audience. 3net, a 3-D joint venture from IMAX, Discovery and Sony, will launch on Sunday night, just one day before ESPN begins full-time broadcasting on ESPN 3D.

For the moment, 3net plans to air many of the same shows on loop, including 20 hours of original programming in February. The channel will officially begin broadcasts on Sunday, at 8 pm ET, with a stoner's special of three nature documentaries: 'China Revealed,' 'Into The Deep 3D' and 'Forgotten Planet.' At first, only DirecTV subscribers will be able to access the channel, and, of course, they'll need a 3-D TV and special glasses to actually watch it. With its launch, 3net will become only the second 24-hour 3-D channel to broadcast on DirecTV, which introduced n3d last January. Despite the relatively small audience, though, 3net chief exec Tom Cosgrove told the New York Times that his company has seen "a ton of interest" in full-time 3-D TV.
