Funny Or Die troll the DJ Mag Top 100 in cameo-filled video

Image for Watch: Funny Or Die troll the DJ Mag Top 100 in cameo-filled video
By now, you would’ve noticed that the polls are open in this year’s DJ Mag Top 100. Nicky Romero’s angling for votes, Gareth Emery and TyDi have both publically opted out, and comedy website Funny or Die is hard at work taking the piss. This year, the site has recruited an A-list cast of dance music names to spoof the poll in their DJ Mag “campaign” video – and while the annual Top 100 might be an easy target, the parody’s nonetheless amusing.
A cast of big names cameo, all making a tongue-in-cheek case for why they deserve your vote. Boys Noize is there promising to bring more techno to schools, while Afrojack wants to save the environment. Leave it to Dillon Francis to weave burritos into his spiel (“Which candidate loves burritos?” he asks. “Which candidate has never wavered on his position that tacos are kind of bullshit?”) while HARD Events head Gary Richards, better known as Destructo, promises he’s got a new festival in the works: “Coming in 2015, our all trap submarine: Real Trap Ship”.
Even 90s legend Alanis Morissette makes an appearance. “I’m not really even a DJ yet,” she laughs, stationed behind behind a laptop and mixer, “but I’m sure I could learn to do it in, what, like, two minutes? How hard could it be?” But the best line in the whole thing comes from to veteran Brit Paul Oakenfold: “Vote for us, so we don’t have to get kids in India to do it for you.” Boom tish.

EDM News : Deadmau5 Goes After Commercial House.Wins.

Joel Zimmerman

Joel has been on a roll lately. From a few pretty fantastic releases on his “Fuckmylife” Soundcloud page, to his big “Fuck You” to Ultra Records, and of course his twitter argument with Afrojack over what constitutes good music, Deadmau5 has frankly been killin it (if you seriously thought that Afrojack was ever ahead in that argument at any point, you need to re-check your definition of “Owned”).  Earlier today, Joel uploaded a track that can only be described as How to Troll Mainstream House 101. Appropriately titled, “DROP DA BOMB” employs the classic build up, a stupid voice saying something more or less pointless, and then an incredibly simple, staccato, tribal synth on top of a 4×4 beat.  It sounds quite similar to, well, everything in electro house at the moment. It’s the perfect way to basically state what we writers circle around with lengthy articles about bubbles, stagnation, and festival tracks: that at the end of the day, originality and a real want to create amazing and powerful music needs to trump copy cat production thats sole purpose is to be on some top 100 list. If you haven’t listened to the recent tracks that Joel has put out, you should. They are wonderful previews of music, created by a person who, at times may talk a little too much shit about the industry, but really cares about what he puts out there as an artist and as a member of the electronic music scene. P.S: shout out to Professor Meowington.

Afrojack: Paris’ DJ career ‘was a complete surprise to me’

Afrojack-EDC-holdin-it-down
By now you’ve inevitably seen the video of Paris Hilton “DJing” in Brazil, but what you haven’t seen is Afrojack’s official reaction. Well, we’ve received an exclusive statement from the Dutch mega DJ meant to set the record straight. He writes that he worked on some tracks with Paris “a while ago, but her trying to become a DJ was a complete surprise to me.”
It is simply not possible to become a good DJ unless you put lots of hard work and years of sweat in it.
In reaction to the footage online, he remarks that “this proves once and for all that edm (or dance music as I call it) is all about skills and quality.” He is afraid that Paris “underestimated” the hard work, time, and energy needed to become a good DJ, and asks everyone to “continue with what we’re doing, loving our culture and sharing our passion for the music.” Damn straight.
Full, unedited statement straight from Mr. Van de Wall after the break.

As everybody knows, I have been working on some tracks with Paris a while ago, but her trying to become a DJ was a complete surprise to me. Then I saw the video and I think this proves once and for all that edm (or dance music as I call it) is all about skills and quality. It is simply not possible to become a good DJ unless you put lots of hard work and years of sweat in it. I’m afraid Paris underestimated this.
But I think this whole thing is really not important. Lets all do a giant facepalm flashmob and continue with what we were doing, loving our culture and sharing our passion for the music.

Afrojack Changes Miami Venue for Jacked Summer Tour to Mansion, Adds Second Gig

afrojack.jpg
Afrojack is bummed.

"Just found out some of my shows are postponed till November [because] of production delays," he tweeted earlier this morning. "Maybe [I'll] just go back to blackroom [and] strobes."

Though his June 16 gig in Miami was spared postponement, production delays did trigger a venue change. Rather than playing the Klipsch Amphitheater at Bayfront Park as originally scheduled, Afrojack's taking over Mansion and adding a second show on June 15 at the expense of Miami's intrastate rival city, Tampa.

A show at that city's Florida State Fair Expo Hall was one of several gigs scrapped from the Jacked tour, "a super dance music party" billed as "one of the world's most popular club nights."

The Grammy-winning DJ and producer also nixed Atlanta from this summer's tour and added a set at Pompano Beach's Club Cinema.

According the official press release, "Ticket holders will need to purchase a new ticket for the new venue and can receive a full refund on the current ticket from the original point of purchase....

"Afrojack and his team apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to those who have purchased tickets. He hopes that you will join him at the new venue for a one of a kind experience only found at 'Jacked!'"
