'Justice League' aims for summer 2015 after Superman victory

"Justice League" on Cartoon Network

Warner Bros. can go ahead with plans for a live-action "Justice League" movie in 2015 following Tuesday's victory in a Superman legal case. Above, the animated "Justice League" TV series from last decade.
DC Comics' superheroes can finally team up on the big screen following yesterday's legal victory for Warner Bros. in its long-running fight over the rights to Superman.
The studio is expected to accelerate development of a planned "Justice League" movie that would join Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman and other characters, according to a knowledgeable person not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.
Warner hopes to shoot the film next year and release it in the summer of 2015. The studio already has a "Justice League" script in the works. Next it needs to attach a director and then cast the lead roles.

Had Warner lost its case against the heirs of Superman co-creator Joe Shuster, it would not have been able to make "Justice League" or any other movies, television shows or comics featuring key elements of the Man of Steel's mythos after 2013 unless it reached a new agreement with the estates of Shuster and co-creator Jerry Siegel.
That uncertainty made it difficult for Warner to move ahead with "Justice League," which the studio's motion pictures group president, Jeff Robinov, has long wanted to make as a pillar of its big-screen superhero strategy.
Robinov previously tried unsuccessfully to convince "The Dark Knight" director Christopher Nolan to produce "Justice League." Nolan is producing next year's Superman movie "Man of Steel." Wednesday's  court victory also makes it possible for Warner to make sequels to "Man of Steel" if the picture is successful.

With "Green Lantern" flopping and other movies featuring the Flash and Wonder Woman lingering in development, Warner has lagged behind Walt Disney Co.'s Marvel Studios in profiting from cinematic superheroes. Only Nolan's blockbuster Batman movie trilogy has succeeded for the Burbank studio.
The studio's plan is to spin out other superheroes into their own movies following "Justice League." That's contrary to Marvel's successful strategy of teaming up Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and Captain America in "Avengers" (which became a global blockbuster) after each character had his own film.

EDM : Dutch Influence (Official Movie Trailer)

No can argue with the fact that the Dutch have undeniably effected the overall direction of the electronic music industry.  Everything from the high pitched sounds of Dutch house to their infiltration into the electro scene, they’ve practically taken over the pro DJ circuit.  Everyone from Afrojack, Fedde Le Grand, Sidney Samson, Tiesto, to Laidback Luke hail from Holland and the list goes on.  This can’t just be some coincidence right?  ”Dutch Influence” examines the role that the Dutch have played in Dance music and how it became so.  The movie will premiere at ADE 2012 on Wednesday, October  17 2012, so if you’re anywhere near Amsterdam, do not miss this great event.

Michael Bay confirms Transformers 4, replacing entire human cast

optimus prime

Ready or not, here comes Transformers 4. The Huffington Post reports that Transformers directory Michael Bay has signed a contract with Paramount Pictures to extend the money-minting movie franchise. Yeah, we know. Most everyone says the movies are terrible, with the exception of some eye-popping (yet very overdone) CGI.

It's hard to blame Paramount or Bay for going back to the well for more Autobot love. After all, the movies gross hundreds of millions of dollars, which makes us think that at least some of you are ponying up at the local movie theater.

As for Shia LaBeouf and the rest of the Transformers cast, word is that they will not be back for movie number four. But you can bet that Bumblebee, Optimus and the remaining cast of bad guys will be back. Bay claims the movie will hit the big screen on June 29, 2014, but there is no script at this point. Many will no doubt debate that there will be no script on June 30, 2014, either.

At The Movies : The Lion King Beats Drive at box office

Drive - Ryan Gossling
Drive, a new film featuring a Ryan Gosling as a getaway driver, came in way further down the box office list than the 3-D release of The Lion King this weekend.
While Drive got good reviews from movie goers and many critics like The Hollywood Reporter’s “exhilarating ride” comment, others pointed out some negative spots. The Los Angeles Times‘ Kenneth Turan says Drive “doesn’t spend a lot of time on mayhem, but what does get put on screen is intense, unsettling and increasingly grotesque and graphic.”
The $11 million that Drive made may have been enough to top Sarah Jessica Parker’s latest, I Don’t Know How She Does It, but the film didn’t come close to the $29.3 million The Lion King brought in. Looks like the mixed reviews made it tough for a newcomer to compete with a classic.

Rides - Movies : Meet "Grem" and "Acer," Cars 2’s newest car stars

Meet "Grem" and "Acer," Cars 2's newest car starsHere's an exclusive first look at Grem and Acer, the two newest digital automotive cast members to Cars 2, Disney's sequel to the hit flick Cars, one of the best car movies of all time. Let's meet the two aptly-named "lemons" below.

Warning, there be spoilers below!

Grem (voiced by Joe Mantegna)

Grem is a dented, rusty orange AMC Gremlin. After years of being dismissed for his design, even being called a "lemon," Grem has a big chip on his fender that has led him to the underworld of international espionage. As a henchman for a villainous boss Professor Z, Grem and his partner-in-crime Acer are trying to sabotage the World Grand Prix and the famous race cars competing in it. When Grem and Acer mistake Mater for an American agent with important top-secret information, the ruthless lemons set out on a round-the-globe chase to stop Mater from foiling their evil scheme.

Acer (voiced by Peter Jacobson)

Acer has always felt like an outcast in the car world. The beat-up green AMC Pacer joined forces with fellow "lemon" cars as henchmen for the devious Professor Z, whose clandestine mission is to wreak havoc at the highly visible World Grand Prix. Acer must hunt down the American and British secret agents who've stolen crucial information about Professor Z's underhanded plot-his primary target just happens to be Mater, who's been mistaken for a spy. Acer tries very hard to be a tough guy, but he's over-eager compared to his no-nonsense accomplice Grem.

'The Social Network' Sweeps Golden Globes, Road To Oscar Ahead

The Social Network Golden Globes
I saw 'The Social Network' and it is actually a great movie. It seems that the Hollywood Foreign Press are apt to agree. (For the record: we are available for any of your critical/predictive needs, Hollywood. Just throwing that out there.) Last night, 'The Social Network' took home the Golden Globe for Best Picture -- Drama, which is an impressive feat, especially since the Globes are no longer just a pit-stop to the Oscars, but instead the Academy's cheeky, better-dressed, younger sibling. Of course, the producers took time to shout out "Mark Zuckerberg, for his willingness for letting us use his life and work as a metaphor to tell a story about communication and the way we relate to each other."

Of course, the Oscar is still the big enchilada, but the Globe proves the "Facebook Movie" could go all the way. The GGs are often the "populist" Academys, often awarding the "favorite" over the "best". However, unlike 'Avatar' and 'Atonement' (previous winners that didn't go on to nab a gold statue), 'The Social Network' may be that serendipitous movie where it is both loved by critics and fans alike. One thing is for certain: An Oscar nomination for 'The Social Network' would surprise exactly no one.

Entertainment - Green Hornet,’ ‘Dilemma,’ and ‘Ong Bak 3’ All Hit the Theaters

Green Hornet Seth Rogen

Today's big movie release is "The Green Hornet," starring Seth Rogen (lost a ton of weight, grew some weird sideburns), Cameron Diaz, Christoph Waltz, and Jay Chou. Rogen claims his research for his "low-budget bumbling Batman" was studying the life of Paris Hilton and other spoiled heiresses and heirs. Funnyguy Rogen and eclectic director Michael Gondry should bring a new dimension to the familiar superhero formula.

After the jump, watch the trailer for "The Green Hornet," as well as "The Dilemma" and "Ong Bak 3," which also opened this weekend.

In "The Dilemma," Vince Vaughn spies the wife (Winona Ryder) of his best friend, Kevin James, cheating on him and has to decide whether or not to alert his pal. Hilarity and various hijinx ensue. The movie co-stars the beautiful Jennifer Connelly as Vaughn's wife and is directed by Ron Howard.

"Ong Bak 3" is the third in the Thai movie series, in which the hero Tien (who has lost his fighting powers) is captured, beaten, and eventually saved and returned to his village. The movie explores his journey through meditation to regain his powers, his wrestle with his Karma, and culminates in his final duel with his arch-nemesis. For the action/foreign movie enthusiast, but expect more sweet fight action sequences than annoying subtitles.

Jon Favreau NOT Directing Iron Man 3

CONFIRMED: Jon Favreau, known director of the Iron Man franchise has reportedly departed with Marvel Studios in directing the third installment. Check it Out
Image and video hosting by TinyPic

According to New York Magazine's Vulture blog, it seems Jon Favreau, loyal directing of the Iron Man franchise, has parted ways with Marvel Studios in directing the much-anticipated third installment.

UPDATE: Deadline further confirms that Favreau is guaranteed Out!
"Favreau is excited about the opportunity to go do his own thing" while Kevin Feige as the ultimate custodian of the Iron Man franchise "sees it as an opportunity to bring some more fire to the franchise". Favreau will still exec produce The Avengers."

"Insiders tell Vulture that Favreau has just informed Marvel Studios that he won't direct a third Iron Man film. [Some] industry insiders look at Favreau's growing price tag and speculate that he was getting too expensive for the equally frugal Marvel and its parent company, Disney. In fact, one Hollywood player familiar with Marvel's playbook theorizes that the company had been pushing a confusing and packed vision of the third film as a tactic to provoke Favreau into leaving the project.

Receiving $10 million for the Iron Man sequel, it's unclear what he'd be seeking for a third film, but reps familiar with these sorts of gross participation deals tell Vulture that he likely would command $12 million to $15 million up front, plus a 15 percent percent of the gross after the film recouped. Regardless of why, we’re told that Marvel quietly began the process of finding a director to replace Favreau last night. But Marvel’s task is complicated by the fact that Downey Jr. has both contractually negotiated director approval and is currently the hottest leading man in Hollywood with first pick of dozens of "go" movies around town."

Currently working on Cowboys & Aliens, in a recent interview with MTV, Favreau revealed plans, only in theory for Iron Man 3, so it'd only makes sense to break things off with Marvel early. Anyhow, Vulture further states Marvel execs hope to put a director on the project to guide its development as soon as possible. Only wonders for Happy Hogan, but more info is soon to come.

And I'm assuming the film will remain targeted for a May 3, 2013 release, with Disney distributing. What do you think?
